Sacred Heart students and teachers attend Holy Mass every school day at 8:15 a.m. Our participation in daily Mass is to be one of prayerfulness, self-discipline, and reverence. Through our reverent participation in the Holy Mass, we give glory to God and encounter Him in the person of Jesus Christ through the Holy Eucharist. Parents are welcome to join the student body in worship whenever possible.
Students are expected to actively participate in the Mass. Students should prepare themselves for Mass by removing hats, gloves and jackets, being quiet and respectful, following along with readings in the missalette (grades 3-8), kneeling when appropriate, praying and singing. Students will sit with their class and homeroom teacher during Mass. Each week, one homeroom class is responsible for planning a specific liturgy, with students reading, offering petitions and presenting the gifts.
Catholic students who are able to receive Communion are encouraged to do so. Those students who are unable to receive Holy Communion (in grades 3–8) are expected to receive a blessing. Non-Catholic students are welcome to receive a blessing, otherwise they will remain in the pew.
Holy Days of Obligation
Sacred Heart is not in session on holy days of obligation to allow for attendance at Holy Mass and celebration of the day. Please consult the school calendar for specific days and the parish bulletin for Mass times.
